| Before You Read |

My name is Jessica Lanay. I am a poet. I am a short story writer. I am an interviewer. I am an art journalist. I am hard pressed to apply a name to what comes after this. A series of thoughts on the spur of the moment, maybe. But not reflections…never reflections…I don’t like the idea of being considered “reflective,” as of now, I don’t know why. The writings that follow aren’t momentos…maybe they’re opinions…short essays for sure. Meanderings sounds just as pretentious as “A series of thoughts on the spur of the moment;” that may not even be true. I am not a very spur of the moment person, no matter how my actions make you feel. If I randomly cussed you out, I thought about it for a long time.

More specifically—these writings are mine. Every juxtaposition, every comparison, every idea here, every cognitive stroll that I am taking belongs to me. So, please, do not let me see any of it anywhere else without my permission. These cognitive strolls (I like that for now…) are distilled from a mixture of thoughts about art, popular culture, political history, aesthetic histories, injustice, fun memories, not so fun memories; I am offering a perspective. Also important, these are works in progress: they won’t be extremely long, sometimes they won’t be correct, but I am working and work is about mistakes.

If there is anything that ends up here that you may want an elaboration on. Email and let’s see what happens.

P.S. All images and/or designs are my own artwork and property.

P.S.S. Except for the cat in the HANG IN THERE KITTY design; the cat in particular is by the photographer and graphic designer Victor Baldwin.
